Letting Go Hive™

A Quiet Place to Let Go

A symbolic garden feature for recovery programs, memorial landscapes, cemeteries, senior living communities, and places where people need a simple way to release what they have been carrying.

Visitors write a private note, place it inside the hive, and let the garden receive it. Over time, the notes compost beneath the hive, returning to the soil as part of the garden’s cycle of loss, growth, and renewal.

From a recovery center therapy program

“Having this as a therapeutic tool has been a wonderful addition to our program. Having an outside the box way to look at letting go and the cycle of loss and growth allows people to connect with the idea of moving forward in a new and powerful way.”

What clients said after using it

A Private Action That Opens a Door

“I thought I wasn’t going to like this, because I’m not big on talking about some of my biggest regrets. But I wrote them, just for myself, and let the bees hear what I didn’t want to say.”

Client, Charles River Recovery

“Telling the Bees is like sending up a prayer to the people I’ve lost. It gave me a moment to feel close to them again.”

Client, Charles River Recovery

A Garden Feature With a Therapeutic Action

Many healing and memorial landscapes invite people to sit, look, or walk. The Letting Go Hive™ adds one more possibility: a small, physical act of release. It gives people something private and simple to do when words are difficult, grief is present, regret is heavy, or change needs to be marked.

How It Works

The ritual is intentionally simple, accessible, and low-pressure.

1. Write

A visitor writes a private note: something they are ready to release, honor, remember, grieve, or carry differently.

2. Place

The note is placed inside the hive. The action is small, but physical: the burden moves from hand to garden.

3. Return

The notes compost below, returning to the earth and becoming part of the garden’s visible cycle of renewal.

Letting Go Hive

The heart of the feature

Loss and Growth, Held in the Same Place

The Letting Go Hive™ works because it does not treat release as disappearance. What is written down is acknowledged, placed, and returned to the garden. The composting process becomes part of the meaning.

For visitors, the gesture can be private. For a recovery program or care organization, the feature becomes a quiet focal point for reflection, memory, grief, and emotional transition.
